Google launches Pixel 8 smartwatch with new AI feature

Google's flagship Pixel smartphone accounts for a small fraction of Apple's iPhone sales. But it was designed to show how Android products push the limits of current technology. Pixels are popular with photography enthusiasts and consumers who prefer Android devices without modifications from other phone manufacturers.
Google has strengthened its Pixel series with its latest mobile processor, Tensor G3. Google's new custom chip has more artificial intelligence and machine learning features, allowing users to process more data on the device itself and in the cloud.
Artificial intelligence features will help with photography, summarizing web pages and blocking spam calls, senior executives said at a Made by Google event in New York on Wednesday.
The higher-end Pixel 8 Pro has a Thermometer app that measures body temperature, subject to Food and Drug Administration approval.
Starting prices are $699 for the Pixel 8 and $999 for the Pixel Pro 8, which is $100 more than previous-generation models. These will be available starting October 12th.
"Google was clearly focused on driving the mobile AI message at today's event, and on-device/client AI will be a big topic for the industry going forward," said IDC analyst Ryan Reith. "If supported by strong marketing, Google could capture higher market share with this product line, especially in the US." "It can," he said.
Last month, Apple launched a new iPhone lineup that includes a new titanium shell, a faster chip and improved video game playing capabilities.
The biggest surprise about the iPhone 15 was that Apple didn't raise prices to reflect the global smartphone decline.
According to IDC, Google Pixel ranks 12th globally in terms of shipments, with a share of 0.9%.
The latest updates could make Pixel phones more attractive to shoppers during the holiday season.
According to IDC, the United States is the largest market, accounting for approximately 39% of Pixel's worldwide shipments, followed by Japan at 29% and the United Kingdom at 9%.
Google also announced plans to add generative AI capabilities to its virtual assistant, allowing it to do things like help people plan a trip or catch up on emails and then ask follow-up questions.
The company has launched Google Watch 2, the upper version of the first smartwatch, which will be released in October 2022, with prices starting from $ 349. It features a digital crown powered by artificial intelligence and advanced health monitoring features.
